Mission & Goals

The idea of TensiNet became a reality in 1999 as a proposal for a European thematic network (Growth), which ran until 2004. TensiNet continued under the wings of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. Since April 2020, TensiNet has become an international non-profit association. Within the field of tensile membrane structures, TensiNet brings together professionals from various fields such as design, engineering, manufacturing and installation. Through its diverse membership base and extensive expertise, TensiNet plays a key role in advancing the development of membrane structures. Membrane structures use flexible membranes ((un-)coated fabrics or foils) to create self-supporting roofs, canopies, and other types of enclosures. These structures are typically made of PVC-coated polyester, PTFE-coated fiberglass, or ETFE and other films. TensiNet is requesting an exemption for all fluoropolymers from the proposed PFAS ban under REACH.

EU Legislative Interests

Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) TensiNet is interested in participating in the following bodies and networks of ECHA : - Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC) - Committee for Socio-economic Analysis (SEAC)

Member Of

TensiNet promotes the collective interests of their members, being material producers, designers, engineers, fabricators and installers, as well as software devolleoprs, research labs and universities. General “Good practice rules” have been established for all involved parties as well as specific “Good practice rules" for each branch (Membrane Material Producer, Raw Material Producer, Membrane Manufacturer, Designers/ Engineers, Architects, Testing Laboratories). The "Working Group Specifications & Eurocode" collaborates with "CEN/TC250 WG5 Membrane Structures" to develop a Eurocode part for the design of Tensioned Membrane Structures. The "Working Group Sustainability and Comfort" starts with the development of Group EPDs for PVC-coated polyester membranes and ETFE-foils. See also www.tensinet.com
