Mission & Goals
The Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) is a certification scheme covering a broad spectrum of solid woody bio-based products, including pellets and chips, biochar, biocarbon, and other processed wood-based products. SBP's purpose is to expand the contribution of good biomass to the global bioeconomy.
EU Legislative Interests
The Sustainable Biomass Program aims to inform EU stakeholders about its activities, support the work of European policymakers and regulators in integrating (solid) woody biomass use for large-scale energy production into low carbon energy policy, and provide a tool for European utilities using biomass for energy production to demonstrate compliance with sustainability criteria. The most relevant EU initiatives of interest to the SBP are - RED-related activities/initiatives - Forest Strategy - LULUCF Regulation - EU Bioeconomy Strategy - EU Deforestation Regulation - JRC Biomass Studies/Reports - Taxonomy Regulation - Biodiversity Strategy - Carbon Removal Certification Framework - Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive - Corporate Responsibility Reporting Directive - Green Claims Directive - Forced Labour Regulation - EU Climate Law - Forest Monitoring Regulation - Clean Industrial Deal
Communication Activities
The SBP certification scheme is the most relevant aspect of the SBP's work concerning the sustainable biomass supply chain. Details of the SBP certification scheme can be found on the website. Link provided below http://www.sbp-cert.org
