Mission & Goals
Surfrider Europe is a non-profit organisation whose purpose is to protect the ocean, the coastline, all aquatic environments & their users. Created in 1990 by a group of surfers who wanted to preserve their playground, it now gathers a community of Ocean lovers. Grass-roots activism is at the core of our NGO. We have over 13,000 members and are active across 12 countries through 45+ volunteer-run branches. For 30+ years, we have developed impactful programmes in 3 areas: marine litter, water quality and public health, coastal management and climate change. We take action to drastically reduce plastic waste, move away from fossil fuels, fight against climate change and its impacts, and stop marine pollution and the damage to the ocean and coasts through advocacy, campaigns, awareness-raising, events & local actions. Surfrider Europe is a member of the Surfrider international network active in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Morocco, Senegal & the USA. Visit www.surfrider.eu

Organisation Members
We have over 13,000 members and are active across 12 countries through 45+ volunteer-run branches. For more information on our network of volunteers, please consult: https://www.surfrider.eu/local-groups/ Since 2023, Surfrider Foundation Europe has been transforming its organisation towards an ambitious federal model, designed to consolidate and amplify its actions to protect the ocean across the continent. This strategic transformation has resulted in stronger support for the entities already established in Spain, Germany and the Netherlands, as well as the creation of a new structure in Portugal to complement the historical presence in France and in our Brussels office. The federal model favours the autonomy of the national entities, which develop their own initiatives adapted to specific local circumstances while remaining closely connected to the European headquarters. For more information on our federal model, please consult: https://www.surfrider.eu/surfrider-in-the-eu-and-above/
