Mission & Goals
SuperNode is a global technology company that develops superconducting cable systems for bulk power transmission. SuperNode’s technology enables the interconnection of electricity markets in a way that facilitates integration of large-scale renewables and the achievement of a decarbonised energy supply. SuperNode is collaborating with system operators, technology companies and research organisations in the areas of cryostats, cryogenics, materials, and transmission technology – for direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) applications. Conventional copper-based transmission cables are limited in terms of current levels which in turn limit their power transfer capability. Superconducting cables can move larger quantities of power at zero losses, over longer distances with smaller, unobtrusive infrastructure, less environmental impacts, with a minimal use of critical raw material. SuperNode is founded by the late Dr Eddie O’Connor and owned by Irish and Norwegian investors.
