Mission & Goals

WR is part of Wageningen University & Research (WUR). The strength of Wageningen University & Research lies in its ability to join the forces of specialised research institutes and the university. It also lies in the combined efforts of the various fields of natural and social sciences. This union of expertise leads to scientific breakthroughs that can quickly be put into practice and be incorporated into education. This is the Wageningen Approach. Collaboration with other parties such as government, business and NGOs is indispensable. This is in line with the Finding Answers Together ambition. Wageningen aims to contribute to tackle the global challenges and SDG's.

EU Legislative Interests

WR performs Research and innovation activities in Horizon Europe and other European programmes (i.e. Digital Europe, LIFE), collaboration, capacity, demonstration and consultancy. The research activities of WR are contributing to the European Green Deal (with the underlying strategies like Farm2Fork strategy, Biodiversity Strategy, circular economy, zero pollution and digital age), the European Bioeconomy Strategy, EU Life Science Strategy,, Food2030 strategy, EU Sustainable blue economy Strategy, EU Circular economy action plan, the UN SDG's and the CAP.

Communication Activities

Wageningen University & Research (collaboration between Wageningen University and Wageningen Research) has been organizing the annual Mansholt lecture in Brussels since 9 years. In the Mansholt lecture we try to challenge the EC and other stakeholders with potential solutions from science for the big societal challenges we face and for the implementation of relevant EU policies in the domain of WUR. Furthermore we organize or join meetings, workshops or panel discussions with representatives from EC, EP and other organizations to come up with ideas from science to implement and / or further develop EU policies. So Wageningen University & Research is very active in the Science - policy dialogue. Wageningen University & Research is active in several European Research networks (ATF, EPSO, PEER, FOODforce, EFARO, ICA) and public-private networks (European Technology Platforms: European Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform (EATiP); Farm Animal Breeding & Reproduction Technology Platform (FABRE); ETP for Organic Food & Farming (TP organics); Forest-based Sector TP (FTP); Circular Biobased Europe JU (CBE JU), ETIP Bioenergy / EERA Bioenergy) which organizes communication activities.
