Communication Activities
In 2025 The Ocean Cleanup expanded in our rivers, launching our new 30 Cities Program (https://theoceancleanup.com/updates/the-ocean-cleanup-launches-30-cities-program-to-cut-ocean-plastic-pollution-from-rivers-by-one-third-by-2030/). Our Communications team documents our operations in video, photography and audio, sharing our footage and expertise across social media and through written updates on theoceancleanup.com to transparently record our progress and allow our supporters and funders to follow our development: Removing 48 million kilos of waste from oceans and rivers: https://theoceancleanup.com/dashboard/ Our new deployments of projects in 2025 include (https://theoceancleanup.com/updates/2025-in-review-the-ocean-cleanup/): Panama: Under a strategic alliance with local partner and non-profit Marea Verde, Interceptor 022 is our first deployment in Panama City for the Siete Cuencas project. This project plans to implement a city-wide approach to prevent plastic pollution in the Bay of Panama, an area of rich biodiversity and ecological value, mangroves and critical ecosystems. https://theoceancleanup.com/updates/panama-implementing-a-city-wide-approach-to-plastic-pollution-prevention/ Honduras: Rio Chamelecon, San Pedro Sula, Honduras - installed for testing since September 1, 2025. Jamaica: we continued to expand and scale our projects in Kingston Harbour. In 2025, we deployed the 9th interceptor in the Harbour, specifically within the Balmagie Gully. Indonesia: we updated the system for Interceptor 020, to be able to manage the large flow of trash during the rainy season (https://theoceancleanup.com/updates/improved-cisadane-interceptor-to-become-fully-operational/). In addition to our projects, we attended the UN Ocean Conference in Nice and the negotiations for the Internationally Legally Binding Instrument on plastic pollution. At the UN Ocean Conference, The Ocean Cleanup hosted a side event featuring a high-level, cross‑sector panel on how river cleanup initiatives strengthen city resilience and support biodiversity. At the plastic treaty negotiations, we shared our plastic monitoring techniques and updated negotiators (of some of the countries where we have active projects) on the progress of our mission and our 30 Cities Program.
