Mission & Goals
The foundation "Stichting NLnet" stimulates network research and development in the domain of Internet technology. The articles of association for the NLnet foundation state: "to promote the exchange of electronic information and all that is related or beneficial to that purpose". We operationalize this by providing (micro)grants to efforts that establish, maintain, curate, and advance digital commons for the benefit of society: libre hardware, free and open source software, open standards, open science and open data.

Commons Caretakers BV is a not-for-profit ("Fiscaal fondsenwervende instelling") wholly owned subsidiary of NLnet Foundation, providing services to developers of free and open source software and hardware, contributors to standards development, open science and open data.
