Mission & Goals
Cordaid is the Catholic Organization for Relief and Development Aid. Our mission is to reduce fragility and people’s vulnerability where it is most needed and most difficult: in fragile and conflict-affected settings. We do this by promoting equality and social inclusion, by increasing the resilience of people and their communities and by strengthening the social contract between citizens and their governments. We focus our aid efforts in some of world’s most conflict-torn and volatile countries. In the Netherlands, we reduce poverty and promote inclusion by encouraging cooperative entrepreneurship for people with low incomes and a distance to the labour market. Cordaid originates from and remains firmly rooted in and accountable to the Dutch society. We present our contributors with real options for the greater good. We offer trainees and young experts opportunities to gain valuable experiences oversees and we are firmly connected with Dutch knowledge institutes an (...)
EU Legislative Interests
Cordaid engages with various EU legislative proposals and policies related to international development, humanitarian assistance, human rights, climate change, and other relevant areas. These engagements include advocacy efforts, policy analysis, and collaboration with policymakers to influence decision-making processes. Cordaid works to influence key decision-makers to ensure that EU policies affecting poor countries have a far reaching, positive impact on lives of people living in fragility. Cordaid's work spans numerous policy areas including development policy, approach to aid effectiveness, fragility and crisis management, and the provision of humanitarian assistance to victims of conflicts and natural disasters. We join forces with allied NGOs and civil society organizations.
Communication Activities
Cordaid's communication activities related to influencing EU policies are vital in ensuring that the policies affecting poor countries have a positive impact on the lives of people living in fragility. These communication efforts encompass various channels such as events, campaigns, and publications, strategically designed to engage key decision-makers and stakeholders in the EU. Events: Cordaid organizes and participates in events that bring together policymakers, experts, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to discuss pressing issues related to EU policies affecting poor countries. These events may include conferences, seminars, workshops, and roundtable discussions, providing platforms for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, and advocacy. Campaigns: Cordaid launches advocacy campaigns aimed at raising awareness and mobilizing public support for specific policy changes or initiatives within the EU. These campaigns often leverage various communication channels, including social media, traditional media, and grassroots mobilization, to amplify their message and influence decision-makers. Publications: Cordaid produces research reports, policy briefs, white papers, and other publications to provide evidence-based analysis, recommendations, and insights on key policy areas such as development policy, aid effectiveness, fragility, crisis management, and humanitarian assistance. These publications serve as valuable resources for policymakers, academics, journalists, and civil society organizations, informing their understanding of complex issues and shaping policy discussions. Alliance Building: Cordaid collaborates with allied NGOs, civil society organizations, think tanks, and advocacy networks to strengthen collective advocacy efforts and amplify their impact on EU policies. By joining forces with like-minded partners, Cordaid enhances its advocacy capacity, fosters strategic alliances, and builds broader coalitions for policy change. Engagement with Decision-makers: Cordaid engages directly with EU institutions, including the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the European External Action Service, to advocate for policies that prioritize the needs and interests of people living in fragility. This engagement involves targeted meetings, consultations, submissions, and briefings to ensure that Cordaid's perspectives and recommendations are effectively communicated to key decision-makers. Overall, Cordaid's communication activities play a crucial role in advocating for EU policies that have a far-reaching, positive impact on the lives of people in fragile contexts. By employing a multi-faceted approach that combines events, campaigns, publications, alliance-building, and direct engagement with decision-makers, Cordaid effectively leverages its expertise and networks to influence policy change and advance the interests of the most vulnerable populations.
