Mission & Goals
Stand Up for Europe is a pan-European citizens’ movement, combining bottom-up mobilisation and participation with a top-down reflection. One of the major aims of the organisation from its beginnings was to become a prominent federalist think-and-do tank. We acknowledge the difficult challenges Europe is facing given the complex and globalised current context while underlining that only together we are strong enough to face global issues. Through various citizens’ engagement actions, SUFE wishes to empower people to make their voices heard and actively take part in the political life of the EU. Our mission is to stand up for European citizens by encouraging the EU institutions, societies, and governments to foster a peaceful, integrated, sustainable and united Europe from the ground up.
EU Legislative Interests
Stand Up For Europe's main target policies include: fostering a more federal Europe; improving the governance of the Union by dropping the unanimity rule for several types of decisions; fighting for more transparency by promoting the election of a president of Europe (at least via renewed systems of Spitzenkandidat); and favouring the mutualization of debt and pan-European programs in critical areas like defence, energy, digitization, and green technologies.
Communication Activities
Stand Up for Europe has carried out a variety of communication and outreach activities to promote citizen participation in EU democratic processes. These include: - Organising and co-hosting public events and debates to raise awareness about the European Citizens’ Initiative and its role in empowering citizens (SUFE is an Official Ambassador of the ECI) - Disseminating information on first, the Conference on the Future of Europe and more recently promoting the European Citizens' Panels through online campaigns, newsletters, and panel discussions with civil society and young people. - Actively contributing to raising awareness about the Citizens’ Engagement Platform by sharing resources and encouraging participation from our network. - Hosting public discussions and producing explanatory content on relevant EU policy areas such as more recently the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). - Advocating for stronger democratic safeguards through the promotion of the ‘Democracy Shield’, including roundtables, policy briefs, and social media outreach.
