Mission & Goals
SQM Europe is a subsidiary of SQM. SQM, a global mining company operating in northern Chile, is present in industries that are strategic for sustainable development, such as health, food, technology and the clean energies that move the world. It is a global leader in each of its five business lines: Specialty Plant Nutrition; Iodine and Derivatives; Potassium and Solar Salts. On its 52nd anniversary and in keeping with its corporate values of Excellence, Safety, Integrity and Sustainability, SQM has moved decisively on innovation and technological development. It has adapted its production, commercial, logistics and management processes to the different conditions on the global market, ensuring operational continuity under high sustainability parameters. As a result, it obtains better results and creates more value for its customers, shareholders and the environment where it operates.
EU Legislative Interests
Given SQM Europe’s portfolio (iodine, nitrates, industrial chemicals, explosive precursors, fertilizers) we are interested to engage with the EU and its institutions on: 1) REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 Registration, evaluation, authorisation, restriction of chemicals Critical for: - Iodine, iodine derivatives (e.g. PVP-I) - Sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate 2) CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 Classification, labelling, packaging Critical for: - Harmonised classification (Annex VI ATPs) - Iodine classification discussions - Changes in hazard classes (e.g. endocrine disruptors future integration) - Label implications for industrial & biocidal uses 3) Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) (EU) No 528/2012 4) Fertilising Products Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 5) Explosives Precursors Regulation (EU) 2019/1148
