Mission & Goals

SCAI is the Sorbonne University Alliance’s unified research and teaching center, driving excellence in interdisciplinary artificial intelligence by federating communities across the faculties of Arts & Humanities, Science & Engineering, and Medicine in Paris and Abu Dhabi. Its goal is to contribute significantly to the excellence of interdisciplinary research and education in artificial intelligence by promoting exchanges between researchers, students and industry.

EU Legislative Interests

SCAI carries out interest representation activities in relation to European Union initiatives in the fields of artificial intelligence, data governance, and research and innovation. These activities primarily consist of contributing scientific expertise, participating in consultations, and engaging with stakeholders involved in the development and implementation of EU policies. Some of the main EU legislative proposals and policy initiatives targeted include: - Regulation laying down harmonised rules on artificial intelligence (Artificial Intelligence Act) - Regulation on European data governance (Data Governance Act) - Regulation on harmonised rules on fair access to and use of data (Data Act) Through its activities, SCAI contributes to discussions on trustworthy artificial intelligence, data sharing frameworks, high-performance computing, and the development of a strong European research and innovation ecosystem. Its engagement focuses on providing academic and scientific input to support evidence-based policymaking at the European level.

Communication Activities

SCAI organises and participates in scientific events, workshops, and conferences addressing European Union policies on artificial intelligence, data, and research and innovation. It contributes to policy discussions through academic publications, reports, and expert input, and engages in collaborative projects and stakeholder exchanges linked to EU programmes such as Horizon Europe and Digital Europe. Dissemination activities also include seminars and public communications aimed at sharing research outcomes relevant to EU policy developments.

Member Of

SCAI is an interdisciplinary institute of Sorbonne University and does not have formal “members” in the sense of a membership-based organisation. It brings together researchers, academic staff, and partners from multiple faculties and affiliated institutions within the Sorbonne University ecosystem. Its activities involve collaboration with laboratories, departments, and external partners, including public research organisations and academic institutions, both at national and European levels.
