Mission & Goals
Solidarity Center (SC) is a U.S.-based global labor organization that partners with workers, unions, and community organizations to advance rights, decent work, and democratic worker voice. The SC operates in more than 70 countries and partners with over 900 organizations, including 500 unions and worker groups, to help workers organize, negotiate, and improve conditions. The SC works with its partners to eradicate forced labor, child labor, and violence and harassment in the workplace. The SC also supports workers in multinational company supply chains to secure accountability for wages, health and safety, and freedom of association, advance labor law reform, and strengthen enforcement and compliance under national legislation and bilateral and multilateral trade agreements. We work with unions, international institutions, and other stakeholders to ensure labor standards are respected across global supply chains.
EU Legislative Interests
The engagement with the EU over the past several years has focused on ad hoc multinational supply chain cases involving EU companies or goods entering the EU, at times engaging on the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) and the Forced Labour Regulation (FLR). Additionally, the SC has met regularly on advocacy initiatives around the proposed EU-Thailand bilateral Free Trade Agreement.
Communication Activities
In Bangkok, Thailand, the SC has met regularly with the EU Delegation and has been invited on numerous occasions to meet on the above files with visiting MEPs and representatives of the Directorate-General for Trade (DG TRADE) and European Parliament Committee on International Trade (INTA). The SC has also met with the negotiating team and individual negotiators from the EU side on the proposed EU-Thailand FTA.
