Mission & Goals

Main goals: Promotion of H&C with geothermal heat pumps (H&C GSHP); National and international regulations for H&C GSHP; Training and certification in H&C GSHP; Participation in national and international professional bodies; Participation in EU projects; National strategies and policies; hosting the Eastern Europe Center of Excellence for Shallow Geothermal Applications.

EU Legislative Interests

Development of the European regulation frame in the geothermal domain. Promotion of the regulative frame of shallow geothermal technology for heating and cooling at European level; Training and certification of GSHP specialists according European directives and national legislation. Active feedback to EU in the elaboration of the European regulative frame through EGEC and GEOTRAINET AISBL (in which RGS is member since 2006, respectively founding member since 2015). Request for a Geothermal European Strategy sent in 2024 to EU under EGEC coordination. Request for Geothermal strategies in all member countries, including Romania.

Communication Activities

Work package leader for Training, Education and Dissemination in 2 EU projects: Cheap-GSHPs (2015-2019) and GEO4CIVHIC (2018-2023). Responsible for 6 international workshops in the 2 mentioned projects between 2015 - 2022. Main national events organizer in the shallow geothermal energy for all kind of stakeholders. Main editor of the training tools (manuals, technical brochures) and Coordinator of training activity in the mentioned projects. Co-organizer of the network of European Centers of Excellence in shallow geothermal domain. Host of European Center of Excellence in Central - East Europe. Request for a Geothermal European Strategy. Currently partner in 2 European projects: COOLING-DOWN (2022-2025 EGEC coordinator) and RE-ENERGIZE project (2024-2027). Partner in a NORWAY grant project: Geo-Innovation PILE (2024-2025).

RGS is not affiliated with any organization, network or association.

Additional Information

RGS / SRG is an nonprofit NGO with only 2 financial sources: (a) members subscriptions (10 EUR/year for individuals and 50 EUR/year for organization) and (b) EU Grants for different projects in which RGS is consortium member (as GEO4CIVHIC up to 2024, COOLING DOWN 2022-2025 and RE-ENERGIZE 2024-2027). The tasks assigned / accomplished in EU projects are fulfilled by RGS members based on in-house-consultants contracts. The other direct costs are exclusively the ones provided in the EU mentioned projects.
