Mission & Goals
As per article 3 of SME Safety Statute: - The main objective of the association, constituted as a non-profit international association in accordance with the Chapter III of the law of 27 June 1921 on non-profit associations, non-profit international associations and foundations, is to safeguard the interests of European SMEs in the safety sector in the international regulatory and policy domain (SMEs are referred to hereby as defined in the EU recommendation 2003/361: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=OJ:L:2003:124:0036:0041:EN:PDF.) In order to reach this overall goal, the association is committed: - to represent the interests and stances of the organization's Members on specific problems vis-à-vis the European and international standardization bodies; - to represent the interests of the members vis-à-vis the European and international institutions; - to provide information to the Members on the development of standards and legislation in the safety sector.
EU Legislative Interests
The main legislative proposals and policies targeted include: - PPE regulation (EU) 2016/425; - Revision of the textile labelling regulation; - Amendment to the Regulation (EU) No 1025/2012 European standardisation; - Eco-design requirements for sustainable products regulation (ESPR); - Standardisation request to the European Committee for Standardization and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization as regards personal protective equipment in support of Regulation (EU) 2016/425; - Revision of Regulation 1025/2012 on European standardisation; - Standardisation request on Digital Product Passport (DPP) systems.
Communication Activities
SME Safety, together with SBS and standardisation experts, provides policy inputs at EU level and technical inputs within the relevant European (CEN-CENELEC) and International (ISO) Standardisation Technical Committees. External campaigns and publications include: - OSHA 2018-19 Campaign: Healthy Workplaces Manage Dangerous Substances; - SBS Forum 2021 on PPE and Textile Care Standardising Circularity in the PPE sector – Digitalisation and Eco-design to support resilience in SMEs, 20 October 2021; - Position Paper on behalf of Small Business Standards: Obstacles in placing new PPE category III products onto the market, May 2023; - Position Paper on behalf of SBS On The Revision Of The Textile Labelling Regulation, published in April 2024. - Communication activities and representation of PPE SMEs in technical groups on behalf and in cooperation with SBS
