Mission & Goals
The Simon Wiesenthal Center, headquartered in Los Angeles, is a global Jewish human rights organization dedicated to preserving the memory of the Holocaust and teaching its lessons for future generations. It combats antisemitism, hate, and terrorism through education, advocacy, and action at the local, national, and international levels. The Center promotes tolerance and human rights via its educational arm, including the Museum of Tolerance, and engages policymakers to strengthen democratic values and counter hatred. It also works to support Israel, defend Jewish communities worldwide, and confront those who seek to deny or distort history.
EU Legislative Interests
The Simon Wiesenthal Center engages with EU institutions primarily on policies concerning: • The EU Strategy on Combating Antisemitism and Fostering Jewish Life (2021–2030) and its implementation; • EU anti-racism, anti-discrimination, and human rights frameworks, including the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union; • EU policies on Holocaust remembrance, education, and the fight against Holocaust denial and distortion; • The Digital Services Act (DSA) and EU initiatives to counter online hate speech, extremism, and terrorism; • EU foreign policy positions concerning Israel, the Middle East, and the protection of Jewish communities worldwide.
Communication Activities
The Simon Wiesenthal Center (intends to) organize and co-host conferences, panel discussions, and exhibitions at the European Parliament and with EU institutions on antisemitism, Holocaust remembrance, and the demonization of Israel. It conducts advocacy campaigns highlighting threats from antisemitism, extremism, and online hate, and issues policy recommendations to EU decision-makers. In addition, SWC engages in educational initiatives, interfaith dialogue, and commemorative events in Brussels and across the EU to foster tolerance and strengthen Jewish life in Europe.
