Main EU legislative proposals or policies targeted: Directive 2009/54/EC on the exploitation and marketing of natural mineral waters, which regulates the recognition, labeling, and commercial standards for natural mineral waters within the EU market. Regulation (EU) No 852/2004 on the hygiene of foodstuffs, relevant to the hygienic processing and bottling of natural mineral and spring water. Regulation (EU) 1169/2011 on the provision of food information to consumers, especially related to accurate and transparent labeling of bottled water products. Directive (EU) 2020/2184 on the quality of water intended for human consumption (recast of the Drinking Water Directive), which mandates quality monitoring, transparency, and safety standards. Regulation (EC) No 178/2002 laying down the general principles and requirements of food law, as it relates to traceability, consumer protection, and food safety compliance. EU Green Deal and the Circular Economy Action Plan, with a focus on packaging sustainability, reduced carbon footprint, and resource efficiency in the bottled water industry.
