Mission & Goals

To provide education, training and advisory services in the field of foresight and strategy, in the UK and internationally, including but not limited to building the capacity of policy-makers, business leaders, international organisations and civil society to use and gain value from strategic foresight. The Company has the power to carry on or undertake any other business, trade or activity that the directors consider to be necessary and/or desirable for the attainment of its objects.

EU Legislative Interests

Much of our work is geared toward supporting the EU’s newly launched strategy on Intergenerational Fairness (IGF). This initiative has officially kicked off in Brussels, bringing together key stakeholders to begin shaping a future where fairness between generations becomes a central part of EU decision-making. Our efforts also reflect the broader vision of the Pact of the Future and its Declaration on Future Generations. We’ve been involved in this space for a while—contributing to initiatives like the European Strategy and Policy Analysis System (ESPAS) and helping to shape the Intergenerational Fairness Framework. Building on that foundation, we’re now focused on helping turn these big-picture strategies into real-world action. Our Policy Brief sets out practical tools and approaches for doing just that. Alongside it, we’ve hosted a number of training sessions, forged new partnerships, and stayed active in communities like the SOIF Pioneers Network and the Next Generation Foresight Practitioners Network.

Communication Activities

We are a global network working to bring intergenerational fairness and long-term thinking into governance. Through our Long Term Governance Programme, we support the implementation of the UN Declaration on Future Generations by helping governments and institutions turn its principles into action. In the EU, we coordinate peer-learning networks with representatives from Member States. These networks create space to share ideas, policy tools, and innovations that support long-term governance and safeguard the interests of future generations. We also engage directly with EU institutions—including the Commission, Parliament, and Council—through bilateral and multilateral meetings. Our aim is to raise awareness and implement intergenerational fairness in policymaking, particularly through Better Regulation processes. Our communication work is designed to make long-term thinking more visible and relevant. Activities include: • Tailored policy briefings that show how intergenerational fairness can strengthen trust, resilience, and the legitimacy of decisions. • Infographics and social media content to explain proposals clearly and accessibly for civil society and young people. • Public events and webinars focused on long-term policy tools, bringing together EU officials, foresight experts, and youth organisations. • Participation in expert forums, such as roundtables, hearings, and consultations linked to strategic foresight and Better Regulation. • A practical Implementation Handbook for the UN Declaration, offering concrete steps to embed long-term governance at national and EU levels.
