Mission & Goals

The Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP) is a bipartisan, non-profit initiative in the U.S. with a mission study, review and provide reports that suggest ways to strengthen America’s long-term competitiveness for a future where artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies reshape the United States' national security, economy, and society. SCSP wants to ensure that America and its allies and partners are positioned and organized for the techno-economic-values competition between now and 2030, the critical window for shaping the future. Our Global Partnerships' team focuses on charting a foreign policy vision, strategy, and actions that promote and protect America’s competitiveness, security, and democratic values and preserve a global network of alliances that reinforce shared interests in a world shaped by AI and other emerging technologies.

EU Legislative Interests

The Schmidt Special Competitive Studies Project hopes to brief European Union institutions on the work of the Project with particular focus in AI, emerging technologies and international policy and security relations, as well as the Project’s work to study the global techno-economic-values competition around emerging technology. SCSP is a U.S. based, tax-exempt organization (501(c)(3) private foundation) that is prohibited from lobbying for or against specific legislative proposals. Instead, it seeks to educate governments, private sector, academia and the public on subject matters including AI and other emerging technologies, and those technologies’ impact on issues of national security, economy, workforce, and governance. SCSP does not seek to influence or target specific EU legislative proposals.

Communication Activities

SCSP does not generally carry out outreach or communication activities on EU policies or legislation directed at EU Institutions. It has not conducted any polls and surveys, open letters and other communication or information material, campaigns, projects, events, publications or position papers directed at EU Institutions. SCSP, as an organization, publishes reports, newsletters, white papers, and a podcast for public consumption on its website, Substack, etc.
