Mission & Goals

Ruthenia vzw aims to promote, support and disseminate cultural activities and products, both in Belgium and internationally. The organisation seeks to familiarise a broad public with art and culture, while also providing a platform for specialised cultural exchange. Its core activities include: organising festivals, conferences, rituals, seminars, lectures and other creative events; promoting education and training through schools and other learning activities; researching, preserving and engaging the public with ethnographic and historical heritage, including pre-Christian sanctuaries and ethno-rituals; publishing and producing literary, musical and audiovisual works across various artistic disciplines; setting up exhibitions, concerts, masterclasses and workshops. The organisation may also carry out any activities that directly or indirectly contribute to the achievement of these objectives.

EU Legislative Interests

Ruthenia vzw primarily focuses on policy areas and legislative proposals related to: Cultural policy: promoting cultural expression, safeguarding intangible heritage, supporting cultural events and fostering international cultural exchange. Education and training: initiatives in non-formal and informal learning, including the development of educational projects, workshops and creative training programmes that contribute to cultural literacy. Heritage policy: conservation, study and public outreach concerning ethnographic and historical heritage, with particular attention to pre-Christian traditions and the rituals of indigenous peoples. Participation and inclusion: promoting civic engagement and cultural participation through accessible activities for diverse target groups. Media and publishing policy: defending interests related to the free production and dissemination of audiovisual, literary and musical works as forms of artistic expression. In this context, the organisation actively monitors developments in Flemish, Belgian and European policy and legislative frameworks that may support or affect its mission and activities.

Communication Activities

Ruthenia vzw organises and supports a range of communication activities that are aligned with EU policy areas on culture, heritage, education and citizen participation. Examples include: Cultural events: organising festivals, ethnographic rituals and artistic performances that place European cultural diversity and heritage at the centre. These events foster intercultural dialogue and enhance the visibility of minorities and indigenous cultures within Europe. Educational workshops and seminars: activities focused on cultural education, heritage education and raising historical awareness, in line with EU objectives on lifelong learning and cultural inclusion. Publications: producing and publishing literary, musical and audiovisual works that contribute to the dissemination of cultural awareness, including thematic publications, CDs, podcasts and short documentaries. International cooperation: participation in and organisation of cross-border projects and lectures with partners in other EU Member States, with a view to cultural exchange and the joint development of heritage. Digital communication: using social media, websites and online campaigns to draw the attention of a broad audience to European cultural values, events and projects. These activities contribute to EU priorities such as the protection of cultural heritage, the promotion of cultural and linguistic diversity and the strengthening of a European identity through culture.
