Mission & Goals
AMR is the oldest professional association of judges and prosecutors in Romania, a constant and active presence in the judiciary and public life for the last 32 years. As stated in Art. 1 para. 2 of the Statute, AMR was established in 1993 as the successor to the Association of Magistrates and Lawyers (AMA), created in 1933, but which was forced to cease its activity during the communist regime. In 2008, AMR has been granted the status of "public utility" association. The summary of the AMR's activity in the last years shows that it has been a significant one, in line with the objectives set out in the Statute, namely "promoting the freedom and dignity of the profession, defending the status of magistrates in the rule of law and the independence of justice from the other branches of government" (Art. 6 para. 2), "defending the freedom, dignity and professional status of magistrates" (Art. 6 para. 4).
