Mission & Goals

Roma Party Pro Europe is an ethnic minority organization committed to promoting the rights, inclusion, and representation of Roma people within Romania and across Europe. Our core goals are: To advocate for equal access to education, employment, healthcare, and housing for Roma communities. To combat all forms of discrimination, antigypsyism, and social exclusion. To increase political participation and civic engagement among Roma citizens. To influence public policy at local, national, and European levels to better reflect the needs and priorities of Roma people. To foster partnerships with institutions, NGOs, and political actors that support human rights, minority rights, and social justice. Our remit covers both national-level advocacy in Romania and engagement with European institutions, policies, and funding mechanisms that impact Roma communities.

EU Legislative Interests

The Roma Party Pro Europe targets a range of EU legislative proposals, policy frameworks, and initiatives that impact Roma communities and aim to advance social justice, equality, and minority rights. Our focus is particularly aligned with the implementation and monitoring of the EU Roma Strategic Framework for Equality, Inclusion and Participation 2020–2030. This key document outlines EU-wide priorities for Roma inclusion, and we actively work to support its objectives across member states, with a focus on Romania. We monitor and respond to legislative proposals under the following policy areas: Social Rights and Inclusion We promote alignment with the European Pillar of Social Rights, particularly regarding equal opportunities, access to essential services, inclusive education, and active support to employment. We advocate for targeted investment in Roma communities through the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+), European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), and Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). Education and Youth Empowerment We focus on legislative and policy initiatives that ensure inclusive education systems, address school segregation, and support Roma youth access to higher education and training. This includes contributions to discussions around the European Education Area and Youth Guarantee. Participation and Representation We engage with efforts to strengthen democratic participation and representation of Roma citizens at the EU level. This includes input on policy debates about political inclusion, electoral rights, and civic participation within the broader European Democracy Action Plan. Funding and Monitoring Mechanisms The party actively monitors the use of EU funds allocated for Roma inclusion, supports transparency and accountability in their implementation, and provides feedback on the effectiveness of National Roma Strategic Frameworks under EU guidance. In all these areas, the Roma Party Pro Europe works to ensure that EU legislative and policy developments reflect the real needs and lived experiences of Roma communities. We collaborate with civil society actors, EU institutions, and national authorities to promote structural change, fight antigypsyism, and ensure that Roma rights are embedded in the European legislative agenda.

Communication Activities

- On April 1, 2025, the Roma Party PRO EUROPE, in collaboration with the Progressive Alliance of Socialists & Democrats and the National Agency for Roma (Romanian Government), organized a public hearing at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. This event served as a key initiative leading up to International Romani Day (April 8) and aimed to highlight the persistent socio-economic and human rights challenges faced by Roma communities, particularly in Romania. The hearing brought together Members of the European Parliament, national representatives, Roma civil society leaders, and policy experts for a structured discussion on the intersection of economic hardship, social exclusion, and rising security concerns affecting Roma populations. Speakers emphasized the urgent need for the EU and member states to strengthen implementation of Roma inclusion strategies, ensure equitable access to public services, and combat structural discrimination and antigypsyism. - On May 8, 2025, the Minority Intergroup of the European Parliament held a dedicated session on the Roma minority, the largest ethnic minority in Europe. The event provided a platform for discussion on the persistent challenges Roma communities face in key areas such as education, employment, housing, and healthcare. The meeting featured representatives from the Roma Party Pro Europe, who shared insights from over 30 years of grassroots and political engagement. The session marked a significant moment following the opening of the Roma Party Pro Europe’s representation office in Strasbourg, aimed at strengthening Roma advocacy at the EU level. Participants exchanged views on the need for: Stronger political representation of Roma at EU institutions More effective implementation of the EU Roma Strategic Framework Cross-institutional cooperation to address structural discrimination The event reinforced the commitment of the Minority Intergroup to keep Roma issues high on the EU agenda and to support inclusive policymaking that reflects the realities of Europe's Roma communities.
