Mission & Goals

FiBL Europe, founded in 2017 and based in Brussels, acts as the European office for the four national FiBL institutes—FiBL Switzerland, FiBL Germany, FiBL Austria, and FiBL France—as well as the Hungarian organic research institute, ÖMKi, and the Luxembourg Institute for Organic Agriculture and Agroecology - IBLA. FiBL Europe ensures that the research findings of the members are communicated to policymakers and stakeholders. The organisation plays a key role in facilitating science-policy discussions surrounding food and farming, particularly in the area of organic agriculture. In addition, FiBL Europe supports FiBL researchers in securing and coordinating projects and fosters efficient cooperation across the national sites.

EU Legislative Interests

FiBL follows the overall developments in EU agri-food policies, a specific focus is devoted to those that have an impact on the organic sector. Particular attention is also given to the modifications of the current CAP and on the reforms debated for the upcoming one (beyond 2027). Additionally, FiBL is engaged in debates around research & innovation needs in food & farming, with a specific interest in the implementation of Horizon Europe and the preparation of the successor Framework Programme.

Communication Activities

FiBL Europe acts as a coordinator and as consortium partner in several research projects funded by Horizon 2020/Horizon Europe. Events are often organized within the scope of these projects and these often involve the participation of representatives from the EU institutions. Similarly, publications, both deriving from EU-funded projects or own research by FiBL are disseminated to the EU institutions, via communication activities or, in specific cases, with the organization of ad-hoc events.
