Mission & Goals
The Research Institute for Democracy, Society and Emerging Technology (DSET), established by Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council, addresses the democratic challenges posed by emerging technologies. As a national think tank, DSET provides policy recommendations rooted in democratic values and public interest, focusing on five core principles: democracy, inclusiveness, sustainability, resilience, and innovation. In the face of rising digital authoritarianism, DSET promotes a governance strategy that safeguards freedom, strengthens security, and advances social equity—ensuring technology development is guided by and serves democracy.
