Mission & Goals
Khthon is an OSINT and SATINT-based humanitarian NGO that locates, analyses and reports mass graves and other war crimes in hidden conflicts around the world. KHTHON's main objectives are: - To raise awareness about these egregious acts before a global audience - To set a standard aimed at deterring future instances of war crimes - To amplify the voices of the victims, conveying their stories from beyond the grave - To gather narrative and geospatial data via Open Source Intelligence and pinpoint the locations and details of mass graves and other war crimes, - To assist in establishing accountability for those individuals or entities responsible, - To assist in providing information needed for the broad identification of victims, - To aid in the creation of an indelible and incontrovertible historical record, - Khthon is powered by a diverse range of over 50 volunteers, who work in teams devoted to given geographical areas from the Sahel to Haiti, Gaza to Ukraine.
EU Legislative Interests
KHTHON aims to foster parliamentary activities and debates addressing ongoing human rights violations, lobbying for EU institutions to keep accountable the perpetrators of those violent acts. To this end, we would like to use our research findings to raise awareness and advise committees rather than shaping EU lawsin order to uncover deliberately concealed crimes against civilians, promoting judicial accountability, increasing public knowledge of hidden conflicts. For instance, KHTHON will work to promote motions and resolutions addressing the mass graves in Ukraine. However, possible areas of influence would be external relations, humanitarian aid, and judicial cooperation.
Communication Activities
KHTHON communication activities towards the EU were limited to two emails to the INTPA and ECHO DGs of the EU Commission. However, we plan to reach out to MEPs involved in the DROI subcommittee. The goal of this outreach is to raise awareness about ongoing human rights violations and war crimes. In particular, we hope to convince the EU institutions to adopt a resolution against those crimes and support the processes of victim identification, awareness raising and crime investigation.
