Mission & Goals

The Private University in the Principality of Liechtenstein (UFL) is an independent higher education institution committed to excellence in teaching and research. Its activities are based on academic freedom, social responsibility, and interdisciplinary cooperation. UFL offers study programmes at the Faculty of Medical Sciences and the Faculty of Law, designed to be completed alongside professional activities. Research is conducted through specialised institutes and research centres, including the Institute for European and International Law (IEIL). UFL participates in European education programmes such as Erasmus+ and engages in international academic cooperation and exchange.

EU Legislative Interests

The activities concern European higher education and European research cooperation, including participation in Erasmus+ mobility and academic exchange programmes under Regulation (EU) 2021/817 establishing Erasmus+. Academic activities also relate to EU policies and legal frameworks concerning artificial intelligence, digitalisation, research cooperation, and fundamental rights, including discussions surrounding the implementation of Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (Artificial Intelligence Act).

Communication Activities

The Private University in the Principality of Liechtenstein (UFL) engages in academic research activities and in European higher education cooperation. Recent activities include international academic seminars, conferences, workshops, research publications, and academic exchanges with European universities and research institutions. In April 2026, UFL organised an international academic seminar together with the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (KUL) involving doctoral researchers and academic staff within the framework of Erasmus+ supported mobility and academic exchange. Academic activities also include research and expert discussions concerning EU digital policy, artificial intelligence governance, and fundamental rights in the context of the implementation of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act.
