Mission & Goals

PlanQC is a German quantum computing company founded in 2022, bringing together leading scientists from the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics (MPQ) and Ludwig-Maximilians University (LMU). Its mission is to develop scalable, high-performance quantum computers based on neutral atoms trapped and manipulated by laser light—a promising approach that combines precision, scalability, and long coherence times. The company’s core goal is to build quantum hardware capable of operating with thousands of qubits and advancing toward fault-tolerant quantum computation. This hardware will be supported by an expanding quantum software stack and cloud service, which will help translate fundamental breakthroughs into practical tools for materials science, chemistry, climate modeling, healthcare, and finance.

EU Legislative Interests

PlanQC’s interest representation activities focus on EU legislative and policy initiatives that support the development, industrialisation, and deployment of quantum technologies in Europe. In particular, we will engage with: - Implementation of the European Quantum Strategy – establishing a coherent framework for Europe’s quantum ecosystem, including research, infrastructure, and industrial scaling measures. - Forthcoming European Quantum Act – supporting the creation of a single market for quantum technologies and dedicated investment mechanisms. - European Chips Act – provisions related to advanced semiconductor and quantum research and manufacturing. - European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU) – integration of quantum processors into hybrid computing systems. - Horizon Europe and Quantum Flagship – programmes fostering research, innovation, and commercialisation of quantum technologies.

Communication Activities

PlanQC will engage with EU institutions through the following activities: - Meetings and exchanges with officials on the industrialisation of quantum computing, integration with high-performance computing (EuroHPC), and innovation funding instruments. - Participation in expert workshops, roundtables, and consultations to provide input on research and industrial policy priorities. - Collaboration with European initiatives and associations to contribute to joint recommendations on the forthcoming European Quantum Act and related programmes. - Written contributions and feedback to public consultations and policy papers related to quantum technologies.
