Mission & Goals
The Plan International EU Liaison Office works to influence EU external policies and programmes, through an integrated approach to advocacy, communications and funding, and based on voices of girls and young women themselves. From conducting face-to-face meetings to developing policy recommendations and organising campaign-actions, we work to raise Plan International’s position as an expert on girls’ rights and gender equality, as well as EU development and humanitarian policy. Plan International EU Office therefore acts as a liaison and coordination hub on EU issues for the global organisation, but most particularly for the Plan Europe network. Plan Europe is a regional network within Plan International which links all European National Offices with our International Headquarters. It is governed by the Plan Europe board.
EU Legislative Interests
Mostly, external action policies and programmes only, however we also cover the invasion of Ukraine. According to the EU’s own treaties, one of its principle objectives is the promotion and realisation of human rights, including children’s rights, around the world. The EU is one of the world’s largest and most influential development and humanitarian actors, and influencing its policies, programmes and actions has the potential to positively affect the lives of hundreds of millions of children, youth and their families in global south countries. By providing a critical analysis of the EU’s policies and proposals, we can push for the changes we want to see. We will therefore strive to ensure the EU allocates sufficient resources to meet its commitments to sustainable development and poverty reduction and the realisation of children’s rights, pushing for annual and multiannual EU budgets which are age-sensitive and gender transformative. For example: The EU Youth Action Plan, The EU Gender Action Plan III, EP Reports on Access to Education in Developing Countries, EU Communication on EU's humanitarian action: new challenges, same principles'.
