Mission & Goals

The Oversight Board’s mission is to improve how Meta treats people and communities around the world. We apply Facebook, Instagram and Threads’ content standards in a way that protects freedom of expression and other global human rights standards. We do this by providing an independent check on Meta’s content moderation, making binding decisions on the most challenging content issues. We deliver policy recommendations that push Meta to improve its rules, act more transparently and treat all users fairly.

EU Legislative Interests

Internet governance policies related to online content moderation and freedom of expression, including: The EU Digital Services Act, including Article 34 and Systemic Risks The EU Artificial Intelligence Act The EU Audio Visual Media Services Regulation The Code of Conduct on Disinformation The EU AI Act

Communication Activities

Meetings with EU officials, briefings and public events to: inform and educate about the Oversight Board's work on content moderation, risk mitigation and human rights; understand EU regulation on platforms; to understand how countries outside of the EU will be impacted by EU legislation related to global digital platforms; to understand how the Board's work can be relevant within the framework of the DSA.
