Mission & Goals
1847 als Gelehrtengesellschaft gegründet, steht die ÖAW für innovative Grundlagenforschung, interdisziplinären Wissensaustausch und die Vermittlung neuer Erkenntnisse – mit dem Ziel zum wissenschaftlichen und gesamtgesellschaftlichen Fortschritt beizutragen. Sie betreibt 26 Forschungsinstitute im Bereich der anwendungsoffenen Grundlagenforschung in den Geistes-, Kultur-, Sozial- und Naturwissenschaften. Als Impulsgeberin greift die ÖAW zukunftsweisende Forschungsthemen auf und übernimmt Verantwortung für die Wahrung und Interpretation des kulturellen Erbes. Mit Stipendien und Preisen fördert die ÖAW vielversprechende junge Talente. Weltweit initiiert und pflegt die ÖAW Forschungspartnerschaften und sie vertritt die Republik Österreich in internationalen wissenschaftlichen Organisationen. Die ÖAW Mitglieder stellen sich wichtigen Zukunftsfragen, beraten Politik und Gesellschaft und informieren die Öffentlichkeit über wissenschafltiche Erkenntnisse.
