Mission & Goals
As the voice of the EU organic processing and trade companies, OPTA’s key mission is to lead and coordinate the dialogue among the combined European and international organic processors and traders and to defend the common interests of members towards the relevant national, European, international authorities and stakeholders in all policy areas affecting them. OPTA also works as a networking platform for its members to exchange information, expertise and best practice. Our vision is to contribute to a food and farming system where organic becomes the norm, in the EU and beyond.
EU Legislative Interests
Organic Production + Organic Action Plan New Genomic Techniques Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) Nutrition labelling and Sustainability labelling Food Industry and SMEs Trade: Free Trade Agreements, organic equivalence agreements and internationall agreements on trade in organics.
Communication Activities
OPTA Europe is actively promoting organics and participating in EU consultations related to organic /nutrition/ food/ sustainability. As latest examples: -EU consultation on New Genomic Techniques; -EU consultation on organic salt; -EU consultation on organic imports-supervision of control authorities and control bodies in non EU countries -EU consultation on organic production- amended list of authorized products and substances.
