Mission & Goals
The mission of OPEWI is simple: gather European police and military practitioners to expand the security & defence debate. Three main goals: 1) influence, train, and support European lawmakers in matters of security and defense, 2) instill a tactical culture in Brussels, and 3) promote cooperation among European industries. And we want to do this only with European funds & partners in order to remain independent from other influences.
EU Legislative Interests
OPEWI aims to influence EU/European policy makers on all security and defence matters: doctrine, capacities, rules of engagement, operations, legal framework. This means the following in policy terms: - The future of the European Development Fund (EDF) - The future of the European Peace Fund (EPF) - The future of Frontex & Europol - The future of CSDP operations - All work undertaken by the European Defence Agency (EDA), notably its Capabilities Development Plans - More generally, budgets dedicated to security and defence in the MFF
Communication Activities
We are conducting the following activities: - events, usually hybrid (in person and online) - working groups (six months technical discussions) - one annual forum that we call "Europe's Tactical Forum" in an old battlefield site, linking past and future - short studies on security and defence pertaining to European interests
