Mission & Goals
OceanCare is an international non-governmental organisation founded in 1989 to protect and conserve marine animals and the ocean. Through targeted research, conservation projects, education campaigns, and long-term involvement in national and international bodies, OceanCare takes pragmatic steps to improve living conditions in the ocean. In 2011 OceanCare was granted Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC) and is also a partner of the Regional Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM), the Convention for Migratory Species (CMS), the Agreement for the Conservation of Cetaceans of the Mediterranean Sea (ACCOBAMS) and UNEP-MAP (Barcelona Convention). The organisation is an accredited observer to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), and the International Seabed Authority (ISA). OceanCare is also accredited by the United Nations Environmental Assembly and is a partner of UNEP Global Partnership on Marine Litter.
