Mission & Goals

Nordic Financial Unions (NFU) is an organisation for co-operation between trade unions that organises employees in the banking, finance and insurance sectors in the five Nordic countries. At present, seven trade unions are affiliated to the NFU; two in Denmark, one in Finland, two in Sweden, and one in Iceland and Norway, respectively. Through these trade unions, NFU represents around 150 000 employees in the Nordic financial markets.

EU Legislative Interests

Capital Markets Union, retail financial services, sustainable finance-related files, IMD 2, MiFID 2, Solvency II, CRD/CRR, Long-term financing and Level 2 activities by the European Supervisory Authorities.

Communication Activities

In 2018, NFU released the report ´Coping with Compliance´, which aimed to explore the impact of EU financial regulation on finance sector employees in the Nordics. In 2019, NFU published the policy paper ´Making Headway to Sustainable Finance´ aiming to define NFU´s view on sustainable finance and ESG approach. In 2021, NFU published the report ´Coping with Compliance - Experiences from 2021´, which aimed to follow-up on the findings from the initial report from 2018. In 2021, NFU published the position paper ´Mainstraming the Social Agenda in Sustainable Finance´ with the purpose to identify what the social considerations are, where can they be raised on strenghtened within the sustainable finance landscape, and what is the role of finance sector employees and trade unions in the discussions. In 2024, NFU arranged three panel debates with candidates to the European Parliament. In Helsinki, Copenhagen and Stockholm.
