Mission & Goals
The Nexa Center for Internet & Society is an independent research center that focuses on interdisciplinary analyses of technology and its impact on society. Its goals are to further the understanding of new technologies, identifying their implications, limits and potential with a view to the public interest. The Nexa Center provides consulting and document production activities, and organizes conferences and events, looking for the best ways to make the most of the technology in order to ensure economic, scientific-technical, cultural and political development for years to come.

The Nexa Center cooperates with international partners for the development of joint interdisciplinary research projects and initiatives. The Nexa Center has bilateral collaboration agreements with the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University. Below is an overview of the partnerships in broader networks. - Network of Interdisciplinary Internet & Society Research Centers From December 2012 the Nexa Center is part of the global Network of Internet & Society Centers (NoC), a collaborative initiative among academic institutions with a focus on interdisciplinary research on the development, social impact, policy implications, and legal issues concerning the Internet. This collective aims to increase interoperability between participating centers in order to stimulate the creation of new cross-national, cross-disciplinary conversation, debate, teaching, learning, and engagement regarding the most pressing questions around new technologies, social change, and related policy and regulatory developments. Together with seven international co-hosts, the Berkman Center for Internet & Society launched NoC at an international Symposium on Internet-Driven Developments: Structural Changes and Tipping Points (SCTP), which took place on December 6-8, 2012. in October 2024, the annual meeting, titled “The World at a Digital Crossroads: Navigating Uncertainty, Seizing Opportunity,“ was held in Bangkok. The event saw participation from 30 Centers in person, including the Nexa Center. - University of Turin Since its foundation in 2006, the Nexa Center has worked closely with the Department of Law at the University of Turin. The collaboration was built thanks to the work of Nexa Center co-founder and co-director Marco Ricolfi, full professor of Intellectual Property Law and Business Law at Turin Law School until May 2022.The Nexa Center has had the opportunity to deal with legal concepts several times, often through the input of Fellows and Staff and thanks to their competences. The Department of Law has continuously provided the Nexa Center with several interns and researchers over the years who have helped with the daily work of the center. The Nexa Center for Internet & Society has established a collaboration agreement with the Department of Philosophy and Education Sciences at the University of Turin, emphasizing the shared commitment to addressing contemporary scientific challenges related to digital and technological issues, exploring their impact on society through an interdisciplinary approach. - Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino The Nexa Center for Internet & Society – Department of Control and Computer Engineering of the Politecnico di Torino has signed a scientific cooperation agreement with the Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino (Albertina Academy of Fine Arts of Turin).
