Mission & Goals
Bring an end to leprosy: Within the scope of our ongoing multi-annual strategy (2024-2028), NLR’s objective is to contribute to a 50% reduction in annual leprosy cases by the end of 2028 compared to 2021. NLR can only achieve this ambitious goal with strong collaboration with WHO, governments, and other partners. We aim to contribute to this objective through five strategic pillars between 2024-2028: 1. National governments accelerate the elimination of leprosy 2. Prevention of leprosy is scaled up significantly 3. Persons affected by leprosy enjoy equal rights and opportunities 4. A solid funding base, relevant visibility, and strong reputation 5. A strong NLR alliance through national leadership and international support
EU Legislative Interests
Research and innovation in healthcare, with a focus on diagnostics, drug discovery and development. In particular our interest is in the HorizonEurope framework program, focusing on the Innovative Health Initiative and EDCTP-3. Also EU policies, initiatives, legislation linked to: - EU development, international cooperation and external relations with low and middle-income countries - health, research and development, sciences innovation, human rights
Communication Activities
Communication activities are usually carried out in collaboration with DSW. In the near future we have the following meeting planned: - NLR will attend an introductory meeting with People, Health & Society at the European Commission’s DG RTD. We have been asked to attend by DSW. We will meet with representatives from the global health R&D community. We will exchange views and present a collective perspective on the importance of sustained investment in Global Health Research and Innovation within the EU policy and funding landscape. - Prior to this meeting, there could be an in-person meeting with a Member of the European Parliament. Until now, we have not carried out any communication activities.
