Mission & Goals
The National Asset Management Agency (NAMA) is the national asset management company in Ireland. NAMA was established in 2009 and acquired €74 billion of property related loans (mainly non-performing loans) from five Irish banks for a total consideration of €32 billion. NAMA’s statutory mandate per section 10 of the NAMA Act 2009 is to achieve the best commercial return from its acquired loans.
EU Legislative Interests
•NAMA has been accepted to participate in the 'NPL Advisory Panel' and to do so needs to be registered as a Type C member in the Transparency Register. •NAMA has participated in a series of roundtables related to NPL Platforms and related topics. •In addition, all those proposals or policies related to the NAMA's objective, such as achieving NAMA’s statutory mandate per section 10 of the NAMA Act 2009 which is to achieve the best commercial return from its acquired loans.
Communication Activities
As preparations are stepped up to deal with the reasonably expected increase in NPLs and default situations arising due to Covid, the experience and perspectives that NAMA has garnered through establishing a successful AMC and completing a substantial amount of deleveraging in a relatively short period of time may be of benefit to the EU Commission. As part of this NAMA has participated in a number of events arranged by the EU Commission including Roundtables on the NPLs and as part of an informal group preparing for the anticipated emergence of additional NPL in the EU area.
