Mission & Goals
Development of Scalable Photonic Quantum Sensor Products. Munich Quantum Instruments GmbH is an SME and was founded in 2022 for the purpose of transferring the comprehensive technological know-how of the Technical University of Munich and the commercialization of scalable superconducting single photon detectors (SNSPDs) for industrial applications. MQI focuses on its core competencies, which lie in the nanofabrication of detectors with exceptional quality and high yield, innovative readout electronics, novel optical coupling techniques, optimization of energy efficiency, and groundbreaking design of the detector systems. The concrete goal of MQI is to scale SNSPD systems in such a way that they are commercially viable for use in various branches of industry, with QKD as probably the most important sector for us. This includes reducing costs through our multi-channel approach (unique selling point of MQI), but also optimizing the performance of the individual detectors.
