Mission & Goals

MPC Container Ships is a leading global feeder container tonnage provider, headquartered in Oslo, Norway. Since its inception in April 2017, MPCC has undergone rapid growth to become one of the world's leading feeder container tonnage providers, focusing its operations on intra-regional trade lines that connect major ports with smaller, regional ones. MPCC´s vessels are chartered out to global liner shipping companies and regional carriers. MPCC employs a diverse team of around 40 industry professionals across key operational functions. MPCC’s value chain comprises around 1,400 seafarers serving aboard MPCC´s vessels, which make its operations possible enabling the seamless transportation of goods across the globe. While MPCC subcontracts commercial and technical ship management and crewing services to third-party providers, the Company maintains rigorous oversight and accountability for their performance.

EU Legislative Interests

MPCC (MPC Container Ships ASA) focuses its engagement on specific legislative proposals and strategic initiatives of the European Union that are central to the decarbonisation of shipping and the development of a sustainable finance framework in line with the European Green Deal. The following legislative proposals are of particular relevance to MPCC’s efforts: Directive (EU) 2023/958 on the use of renewable and low-carbon fuels in maritime transport (FuelEU Maritime). MPCC can provide operational perspectives on the feasibility and availability of alternative fuels for smaller vessels in shortsea and feeder segments, where bunkering infrastructure, voyage profiles, and commercial arrangements differ significantly from deep-sea operations. This adds valuable nuance to implementation discussions. Directive (EU) 2023/959 and Regulation (EU) 2023/957 extending the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) to maritime transport. As a shipping company that directly participates in the EU ETS and manages a fleet of ~60 vessels, MPCC contributes practical experience on administrative processes, MRV compliance, and commercial implications in time-charter markets. These insights help ensure that ETS obligations are workable across all vessel sizes and operational models. Regulation (EU) 2020/852 establishing a framework to facilitate sustainable investment (EU Taxonomy Regulation). MPCC offers detailed feedback on how technical screening criteria affect investment planning and vessel upgrades in the feeder segment. The company’s engagement helps ensure that the taxonomy reflects realistic decarbonisation pathways for smaller tonnage and does not unintentionally exclude capital flows for transitional or retrofit solutions. Regulation (EU) 2023/1114 on sustainability-related disclosures (CSRD, ESRS and SFDR). MPCC adds value by linking shipping-specific sustainability metrics with investor disclosure requirements. As a listed company engaging with institutional investors, MPCC contributes insights into how disclosures can remain material, verifiable, and consistent with maritime decarbonisation realities. Omnibus legislative proposal of the European Commission to align various climate and energy regulations with the Fit-for-55 package. MPCC supports the horizontal alignment of maritime-related files and can help identify overlaps, inconsistencies, or cumulative regulatory impacts that may hinder decarbonisation investment in shortsea shipping. The company’s integrated view of policy interactions supports more efficient regulation. Preparatory work by the European Commission and Member States on the revision of the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) in the context of the IMO. MPCC brings detailed operational data and feedback from a homogeneous feeder fleet operating under various charter structures. This allows the company to support EU positions that aim for IMO measures to be both environmentally meaningful and compatible with commercial shipping practice. Development of the EU position in the ongoing IMO negotiations on reaching net-zero GHG emissions from international shipping by 2050 at the latest. With strong ties to both European ports and international charterers, MPCC provides valuable input on how global measures can be aligned with regional ambition. The company supports a just and effective transition for smaller operators and can help shape EU positions to reflect the diversity of the maritime sector. As a stock-listed company (Euronext Growth Oslo) headquartered in Oslo with operational focus on shortsea container shipping in Europe, MPCC is committed to a coherent, innovation-enabling EU regulatory framework that ensures climate ambition while maintaining the competitiveness of European maritime actors. MPCC supports realistic transition pathways, consistent and predictable compliance requirements, and practical transparency and reporting standards that reflect the operational realities of shipping companies.

Communication Activities

MPCC’s communication with EU institutions is limited to expert-level engagement through participation in structured stakeholder forums, particularly the European Sustainable Shipping Forum (ESSF) and associated technical working groups. Through these platforms, MPCC contributes operational expertise, sector-specific data, and strategic input on regulatory feasibility and implementation aspects. These communication activitiesare transparent, and aimed at supporting the European Commission and relevant bodies with fact-based insights to inform policymaking in the areas of maritime decarbonisation and sustainable finance. MPCC does not engage in bilateral lobbying or informal influence activities with Members of the European Parliament or representatives of the Commission or Council. Its approach is collaborative, constructive, and based on formal consultation mechanisms and multistakeholder dialogue processes.
