Mission & Goals

Možnosť voľby (Freedom of Choice) was established in 2001 to protect and advance sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in the Slovak Republic. Freedom of Choice is known as the most active feminist advocacy organization in the Slovak Republic, especially in the field of gender equality and gender-based violence and the only one that has been engaged in long-term and systematic advocacy work in the field of SRHR. Through our activities, we contribute to creating a society where people have real freedom of choice to live their lives free from the constraints of gender stereotypes.

EU Legislative Interests

Freedom of Choice seeks to advance gender equality, sexual and reproductive rights and prevent gender-based violence. We plan to engage around EU policy initiatives on gender equality, SRHR, health and gender-based violence, and the humanitarian response to the war in Ukraine.

Organisation Members

ASTRA – Central and Eastern European Network for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights is a regional informal network created in December 1999 by women’s rights organizations and activists from Central and Eastern Europe. Currently ASTRA consists of 40 organizations from 20 countries. ASTRA advocates for the full implementation of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) with special focus on specific reality of SRHR of women in Central and Eastern Europe. ASTRA aims at the prioritization of SRHR on international, regional and national agendas, in particular in the EU and UN institutions. The Network works towards transforming gender power relations in society so that women, girls, men and boys can enjoy their sexual and reproductive rights, and are equal, free and live in dignity. The informal civic initiative Nebudeme ticho! (We Won’t Be Silent!) was formed in 2018 as a resistance movement. It consists of two feminist organizations ASPEKT and Možnosť voľby and individuals. Its members have been addressing reproductive unjustice since 2018 and connecting it to other feminist struggles. The main aim is to oppose and fight efforts to restrict access to abortion in Slovakia and to build and support strong feminist and queer movement in Slovakia.
