Monbat AD is a leading European manufacturer of lead-acid and lithium-ion batteries, primarily serving the automotive, industrial, and energy storage markets. The company’s core mission is to provide innovative, sustainable, and high-performance energy storage solutions that support the transition to a low-carbon economy. Monbat’s goals include enhancing the circular economy through environmentally responsible battery production and recycling, promoting technological innovation in battery systems, and contributing to the development of energy resilience in Europe. The company is actively engaged in industry initiatives and regulatory dialogues related to battery manufacturing, environmental standards, and EU climate and energy policy.
EU Legislative Interests
The main EU legislative proposals and policies targeted include: EU Battery Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2023/1542) — focusing on sustainability, labelling, carbon footprint, recycling efficiency, and due diligence obligations across the battery lifecycle. European Green Deal — particularly in relation to energy storage, clean mobility, and the circular economy. Circular Economy Action Plan — with emphasis on extended producer responsibility, secondary raw materials, and battery recycling. Industrial Strategy for Europe — to ensure strategic autonomy and competitiveness of European battery manufacturers. REACH Regulation and CLP Regulation — concerning the use and classification of chemical substances in battery manufacturing. EU Critical Raw Materials Act — relevant to securing a resilient supply of materials used in battery production. Fit for 55 Package — notably provisions supporting clean transport and renewable energy integration where battery storage plays a key role.
Communication Activities
Monbat AD actively engages in communication activities aimed at promoting awareness and dialogue around sustainable battery production, recycling, and energy transition within the EU context. These include: Participation in EU and industry forums, such as conferences and roundtables on battery regulation, circular economy, and green industrial policy (e.g. events organised by the European Battery Alliance, EUROBAT, or the European Commission). Publication of sustainability and corporate responsibility reports, which align with EU Green Deal objectives and highlight Monbat's contributions to carbon neutrality, recycling targets, and innovation in battery technologies. Partnerships with academic and research institutions to disseminate findings from EU-funded R&D initiatives related to energy storage and battery performance. Targeted communication campaigns on the importance of battery recycling and responsible sourcing of raw materials, supporting the goals of the EU Battery Regulation and Critical Raw Materials Act. Engagement with EU policymakers through consultations, position papers, and feedback to public calls on proposed legislation affecting the battery and energy sectors.
