EU Legislative Interests

Mighty Earth has been, continues to be, or intends to be engaged in conversations with various EU institutions and officials in relation to the following legislative measures, policy initiatives and dialogues: EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) EU Sustainable Corporate Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) EU Nature Restoration Law Common Agricultural Policy The European Green Deal Strategic Dialogue on the future of EU agriculture As a not-for-profit campaigning organisation, Mighty Earth conducts various types of communications, including public communications (through the traditional media, public polling, open letters, social media channels and our website), supporter communications (e.g. via email), targeted communications to specific audiences (e.g. webinars and policy briefings for expert audiences and EU officials), and individual communications with specific Commission officials, member state permanent representations, and elected European Parliamentarians and their offices. Most of our communications with EU institutions are directed towards DG Environment at the Commission, staff at permanent representations with responsibility for files related to the legislative and policy initiatives listed above, and members of the European Parliament’s environment committee (Envi). However, we have also communicated with Parliamentary representatives on Legal Affairs (JURI), and may at times also communicate officials dealing with agricultural and climate policy, as well as international partnerships. Mighty Earth is a regular participant in the Deforestation Platform meetings hosted monthly by EC’s DG Environment.

Communication Activities

We comment publicly on policies, including those related to deforestation imports. We participate and speak at Deforestation Platform meetings hosted by DG Environment.

Mighty Earth is a member of the following umbrella networks, coalitions, and multistakeholder initiative: VOICE Network Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) Accountability Framework Intiative (AFi) : https://accountability-framework.org/ Upon request, Mighty Earth submitted evidence to the DG Environment’s 2024 consultations on potential expansion of the scope of the EUDR to cover other ecosystems and additional agricultural commodities.
