Mission & Goals
Mercator Ocean International (MOi) is a non-profit organization committed to building a science-based Digital Ocean for supporting the conservation and the sustainable use of our oceans and seas and marine resources (UN SDG14). It provides an operational digital description of the global ocean and offers expert services to address major environmental and societal challenges. Recognized as a European and global leader in ocean prediction, MOi fosters collaboration among scientists, policymakers, and civil society. At the 2022 One Ocean Summit in Brest, 6 countries (FR, ES, IT, NO, PT, UK) committed to transforming MOi into an Intergovernmental Organization, in the “Declaration of Brest.” A draft Convention was prepared and shared in 2024 to Copernicus Participating Countries and Monaco. A Diplomatic Conference, scheduled in April 2025, enabled to reach a consensus on the Convention text among the 9 delegations participating. This will lead to the opening of the Convention for signature.
