Mission & Goals
The Norwegian Media Business' Association (MBL) shall strengthen and guard freedom of expression, freedom of the press and freedom of information, as foundational values in a democratic and open society. MBL shall contribute to ensuring that a plurality of economically viable media can function as the open societies arena for information, societal critique and debate. MBL shall safeguard the members' interests as employers, and promote the news media business' positions towards public authorities, organizations and the society at large. (extract from statues)
EU Legislative Interests
EU legislative proposals and policies affecting editorial media such as for example regarding fundamental rights and media freedom, artificial intelligence, copyright, digital platforms, freedom of speech (and especially press freedom), data protection (and e-privacy), media literacy, distribution, VAT.
Communication Activities
MBL will on occasions have meetings with representatives of EU institutions, either by ourselves, or for example with Nordic trade organizations. MBL contributes on case-by-case basis to News Media Europe's EU level communication activities.
