MEDASSET - Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles

Mission & Goals

With roots back to 1983, MEDASSET has as its core mission the conservation and protection of sea turtles in their natural habitats throughout the Mediterranean. Since 1988, MEDASSET is a partner to UNEP/MAP and its Action Plan for the Conservation of Marine Turtles in the Mediterranean, a Permanent Observer-member of the Bern Convention for the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats, a member of the Greek Herpetological Society, of MIO-ECSDE and of the Marine Ecology & Conservation Network of Exeter University (UK). MEDASSET’ Founder & President, Lily Venizelos is a member of IUCN SSC MTSG (Marine Turtle Specialist Group - MTSG) and is a recipient of several Greek and international awards. MEDASSET’s main activities focus on scientific research, surveys & assessments, conservation projects, education, training & capacity building, raising awareness & engaging citizens as well as lobbying, advocacy, contribution to policymaking at national and international levels.
