Mission & Goals
Our organisation is engaged in the extraction and processing of high-quality marble from a quarry located in Vlorë, Albania. Our primary goal is to establish a vertically integrated operation that transforms raw marble into value-added products for domestic and international markets. We are committed to applying environmentally sustainable extraction methods, investing in modern processing technologies, and aligning our operations with EU standards on quality, safety, and environmental protection. Through our activities, we aim to contribute to regional economic development by creating stable employment opportunities, fostering skills development, and promoting Albania’s natural resources abroad. Our remit also includes fostering partnerships with local stakeholders and institutions to support innovation and long-term industrial growth in the natural stone sector.
EU Legislative Interests
Our organisation’s interest representation activities focus on EU legislative proposals and policies that govern the sustainable extraction of natural resources, the responsible processing of raw materials, and the integration of these products into the EU’s internal market. The following legislative proposals and policies are of primary relevance: - Proposal for a Regulation establishing a framework for ensuring a secure and sustainable supply of critical raw materials (Critical Raw Materials Act) – COM(2023) 160 final Although marble is not currently classified as a critical raw material, the policy framework promotes diversification of supply sources, sustainable mining practices, and industrial competitiveness, which are directly relevant to our long-term strategy and investment planning. We follow developments of this regulation to ensure compatibility with future designations and compliance with best practices. - Regulation (EU) 2020/852 on the establishment of a framework to facilitate sustainable investment (EU Taxonomy Regulation). This regulation is crucial for our alignment with green financing criteria. We aim to structure our operations in a way that meets the sustainability thresholds set for environmental objectives such as climate change mitigation, circular economy, and pollution prevention. We follow updates from the Platform on Sustainable Finance to ensure our eligibility for green funding and compliance with ESG standards. - Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 laying down harmonised conditions for the marketing of construction products (Construction Products Regulation) As a producer of processed marble used in construction, we monitor developments and revisions of its closely. We seek to ensure our products meet the harmonised technical specifications required for CE marking and cross-border market access within the EU. - Directive 2006/21/EC on the management of waste from extractive industries (Mining Waste Directive) Our company is committed to environmentally responsible extraction practices. Compliance with this directive is integral to our waste management planning, environmental impact assessments, and risk mitigation strategies. - Directive 2010/75/EU on industrial emissions (Industrial Emissions Directive – IED) As we develop processing facilities, we follow this directive to ensure compliance with Best Available Techniques (BAT) for emissions control and resource efficiency in our industrial activities. - Proposal for a Regulation on Ecodesign for Sustainable Products – COM(2022) 142 final Although marble is a natural product, we engage with this legislative initiative to anticipate future obligations related to product traceability, environmental performance, and life-cycle assessment. Through our interest representation activities, we seek to align our operations with these legislative initiatives, contribute feedback through sector associations and public consultations, and ensure our business model remains in full compliance with evolving EU legal and policy frameworks that affect natural resource industries and sustainability.
Communication Activities
Our organisation’s communication and outreach activities related to EU policy files focus on raising awareness, promoting transparency, and engaging in constructive dialogue with institutional and non-institutional stakeholders. These activities support our strategic objective of aligning our operations with EU legislative priorities in the areas of sustainable resource management, industrial emissions, product regulation, and green finance. The following outreach initiatives and communication activities have been undertaken or are currently in development: - Participation in public consultations and stakeholder feedback mechanisms We have actively contributed to public consultations launched by the European Commission on the revision of the Construction Products Regulation and the implementation of the EU Taxonomy Regulation. These contributions have been submitted either directly or via industry associations and national chambers representing the mineral extraction and construction materials sectors. - Engagement through national and regional business forums Representatives of our enterprise have participated in events organised by the Albanian Investment Development Agency (AIDA), the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, and EU Delegation to Albania, where we have presented our interest in aligning with the objectives of the Critical Raw Materials Act and the Industrial Emissions Directive. These forums provide indirect but valuable access to EU policy discussions, especially as Albania progresses in the EU accession process. - Industry roundtables and policy workshops We are following the information where sustainable quarrying practices were discussed. Through these platforms, we have gained insight into the evolution of EU legislation and shared input from a Western Balkan perspective. - Company-led publications and policy briefs To communicate our sustainability approach and regulatory alignment efforts, we have produced internal policy briefs and a company white paper outlining our alignment with the EU Taxonomy Regulation and the Construction Products Regulation. These documents have been shared with local regulatory bodies, EU-funded advisors, and industry networks. Our company is following the recommendations and suggestions from EU Delegation in Albania and DG NEAR representatives. As part of our broader investment and compliance strategy, we maintain periodic communication with representatives of the EU Delegation in Tirana and have attended EU–Western Balkans economic integration briefings. These exchanges offer us guidance on upcoming legislative priorities and funding instruments. Through these communication activities, we aim to maintain a transparent and proactive relationship with EU institutions, strengthen our compliance position, and advocate for inclusive and regionally informed implementation of EU policies affecting the raw materials and construction product sectors.
