Mission & Goals

Technical advice and support to companies in the field of security especially detection of threat items/materials

EU Legislative Interests

European policies related to security requirements at prisons, ports, borders and airports and well as critical infrastructure. My expertise is the use of technology to improve border and prison security especially through the use of innovative X-ray and Trace Detection (drugs and explosives - including inorganic {currently not done}) so there will be times I need to be able to meet/discuss options with the relevant Commission specialists. Areas where discussions will be held include, inter-alia, -EU Directive on Combating terrorism and replacing Council Framework Decision 2002/475/JHA and amending Council Decision 2005/671/JHA -Commission Recommendation (EU) 2022/1341 of 23 June 2022 on voluntary performance requirements for X-ray equipment used in public spaces (outside aviation) -COMMUNICATION FROM THE COMMISSION TO THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT, THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL, THE COUNCIL, THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COMMITTEE AND THE COMMITTEE OF THE REGIONS A Counter-Terrorism Agenda for the EU: Anticipate, Prevent, Protect, Respond Please note that I cannot give a definitive list since the relevant EC Directives/Recommendations will only become clear during the discussions with Commission staff. Note I am also a member of the ECAC/ACI{E} Passenger/Hold Screening Working Party which the relevant Commission Section attends.

Communication Activities

Virtual Information Session on 17th November 2021 to present "the Customs Control Equipment Instrument (CCCI)" to allow us to understand the EC's requirements and future plans in this area. It is likely that I will need to hold meetings with relevant staff members to discuss plans for Border (Aviation and Land) and Prison Security plans/options in the form of ad-hoc meetings with Commission staff and that these are likely to occur over the next 12 -18 months due to recent developments in aviation and border security technology capabilities.
