Mission & Goals

Maritime Affairs is an independent European platform dedicated to the analysis, development, and promotion of maritime affairs through a multidisciplinary and cross-sectoral approach. Its purpose is to connect experts, professionals, institutions, and stakeholders in order to address key challenges and opportunities in the maritime domain. Its work focuses on maritime security and defence, blue economy and innovation, sustainable use of marine resources, maritime culture and heritage, and sustainable tourism and nautical activities. Maritime Affairs seeks to foster institutional dialogue, contribute to policy discussions at European level, and support innovative and responsible governance strategies for the maritime sector.

EU Legislative Interests

A new approach for a Sustainable Blue Economy in the EU: Transforming the EU’s Blue Economy for a Sustainable Future; An enhanced EU Maritime Security Strategy for evolving maritime threats; A Strategic Compass for Security and Defence - For a European Union that protects its citizens, values and interests and contributes to international peace and security; Regulation (EU) 2021/697 establishing the European Defence Fund; Regulation (EU) 2021/1139 establishing the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund; Directive 2014/89/EU establishing a framework for maritime spatial planning; An Integrated Maritime Policy for the European Union; Regulation (EU) 2021/695 establishing Horizon Europe - the Framework Programme for Research and Innovation; Regulation (EU) 2021/694 establishing the Digital Europe Programme.

Communication Activities

Maritime Affairs has already started its communication and outreach activities, although these are not yet fully public. A dedicated website will be launched shortly and will host articles, analyses and policy-oriented content on maritime issues in line with relevant EU policies and legislative frameworks. In parallel, Maritime Affairs is already developing networking and stakeholder engagement activities, including conferences, round tables, institutional meetings and expert exchanges, with the aim of fostering dialogue among experts, institutions and stakeholders on maritime security, defence, blue economy and the sustainable governance of marine resources. These activities are intended to contribute to public and institutional debate, strengthen awareness of maritime issues, and support the development of innovative policy and governance approaches in the sector.

Member Of

Maritime Affairs is currently an independent organisation and is not a member of any association, federation, network or umbrella body. At present, it has no subsidiaries, affiliated entities, formal sponsors or partner organisations falling under this section. Any future memberships, affiliations, sponsorships or structured partnerships will be declared in accordance with the Transparency Register requirements.

Organisation Members

Maritime Affairs does not currently have a formal membership base or affiliated entities. At this stage, it operates through a limited number of founders, voluntary contributors and supporters involved in its development and activities. No separate legal affiliates, subsidiaries or formally associated entities currently exist. Any future formal members or affiliated entities will be declared in accordance with the Transparency Register requirements.
