Mission & Goals

The non-profit purpose of the MCAA is to promote and exploit, in the broadest sense, the full potential of the community of researchers who have benefited in terms of mobility from the “People” programme of the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Community for research, technological development and demonstration activities (2007 to 2013) (Council Decision L 400/272 dated 30.12.2006, and its corrigendum L54/91 dated 22.02.2007), its successors in the future and its predecessors from past Framework Programmes and to foster greater public awareness of European research. The MCAA is an international non-profit organisation and alumni community for people who currently benefit or have benefited from the European Union's Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) research funding. The MCAA community brings together MSCA alumni from all career stages, disciplines, and sectors. Although the MCAA members share a strong background in research, their careers.

EU Legislative Interests

The MCAA is committed to the following European Research Area (ERA) Actions: - Strengthening the sustainability, accessibility and resilience of research infrastructures in the ERA - Making research careers more attractive and sustainable, and supporting mobility - Reforming research assessment - Upscaling knowledge valorisation capacities and activities - Implementing the Global Approach to research and innovation (R&I) - Applying equity in Open Science - Advancing the European Science for Policy (S4P) ecosystem - Developing a coherent and coordinated framework for a European approach to integrity and ethics in R&I in the face of emerging challenges - Empowering R&I: A new era in research management Moreover, the MCAA is involved in advocacy in the following policy areas: Framework Programme: The MCAA actively engages with EU institutions to advocate for robust funding and support for Horizon Europe (FP9), the EU’s current framework programme for R&I, and its successor programme (FP10). This includes advocating for streamlined application processes, increased funding opportunities for early-career researchers, and enhanced international collaboration. Open Science: The MCAA promotes Open Science principles within EU institutions, advocating for policies that enhance transparency, accessibility, and reproducibility in scientific research. This involves supporting initiatives that promote open access to research publications and data, as well as encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing within the research community. Science diplomacy: The MCAA supports science diplomacy initiatives to foster international scientific collaboration, address global challenges and compete with major players, while strengthening the role of researchers in the policy dialogue. Researchers’ careers and mobility: The MCAA advocates for policies that facilitate researchers’ careers and mobility across the EU and beyond. This includes addressing barriers to mobility, such as visa regulations, and supporting programmes that enable international collaboration and exchange among researchers. Gender equality and diversity: The MCAA is committed to promoting gender equality and diversity in research. This involves advocating for policies that address gender imbalances in research funding, leadership positions, and decision-making processes. The MCAA also supports initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion within the research community. Research assessment: The MCAA promotes assessment methods that take into account the specificities of researchers’ careers and recognise a broader range of contributions, such as collaboration, openness, and societal impact. Researchers’ mental health: The MCAA strives to secure fair working conditions, quality supervision, and researchers’ well-being.

Communication Activities

The major communication activities take place during key events, such as the MCAA Annual Conference, whose most recent edition was held in Krakow, Poland, on 21–22 March 2025, and the annual MCAA Policy Forum, whose launch edition took place at the European Parliament in Brussels, Belgium, on 4 December 2025. In addition, the MCAA publishes a bimonthly newsletter, an annual magazine, and frequent policy statements. The MCAA currently has over 24,000 members worldwide (https://www.mariecuriealumni.eu/mcaa-numbers). The Association does not have affiliated members. EURAXESS Worldwide has been an Honorary Member of the MCAA since April 2018 (https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/worldwide).

The financial year is closed, but the financial statement is being prepared. A detailed update will be made after the General Assembly adopts the Financial Statement. Kindly note that pre-financing funding of some projects were made already in the earlier years.
