Mission & Goals
The Machine Intelligence Research Institute exists to ensure that smarter-than-human artificially intelligent systems have a positive impact. Because we expect advanced AI systems to be extraordinarily consequential in the long term, we believe it is imperative to work toward a theory of extraordinarily reliable and robust AI agent designs.
EU Legislative Interests
European Commission - European AI Office We intend to work together with AI Code of practice team and participate in the drawing-up of the first general-purpose AI Code of Practice. This effort is a result of the passing of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act. Our work will specifically focus on Prohibited AI systems (Chapter II, Art. 5) and High risk AI systems (Chapter III).
Communication Activities
We participated in the multi-stakeholder consultation of the European AI Office on FUTURE-PROOF AI ACT: TRUSTWORTHY GENERAL-PURPOSE AI. We were part of the EU AI Act GPAI Code of Practice working groups (working groups 2, 3, and 4).
