Mission & Goals

The Long Distance Fleet Advisory Council (LDAC) is an EU fisheries stakeholder-led body recognised in the CFP Regulation (UE) No 1380/2013 as an organization aiming a European Interest. Its mission is to promote the role of the EU in the International Ocean Governance, foster conservation of marine biodiversity and the sustainable use of fishing resources in international non-EU waters. It has a dedicated mandate to provide evidence based advice to the European Commission and to the EU Member States on matters pertaining to the External Dimension of the CFP, namely: * EU Sustainable Partnership Fisheries Agreements with Third Countries (SFPAs) * Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs) in which the EU is a contracting party * Monitoring, Control and Surveillance * Fight against IUU fishing * International Ocean Governance * Policy Coherence / Level Playing Field The LDAC is currently composed by 55 member organisations from 11 EU coastal MS having distant water fleets.

EU strategy on External Fisheries Action International Ocean Governance EU Ocean Pact Fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing Evaluation of EU Common Fisheries Policy External Dimension (international fisheries in non EU waters): - Towards a New Generation of Sustainable Partnership Fisheries Agreements with third countries - Fight against Illegal, Unregulated and Undeclared Fishing (IUU) - Maritime Spatial Planning - Regional Fisheries Management Organisations - Ecosystem based approach to fisheries management (EBAFM) and its implementation outside EU waters - UN processes including: UNGA Resolution on Sustainable Fisheries UNFSA Review Conferences IGCs on implementation of UN Agreement on Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ). - Social Dimension of the CFP and implementation of international provisions of maritime safety at sea for fishers. - International Maritime Safety at sea related to fishing, including labour and Human Rights of Fish Workers (including crews, processing plants and fishing communities in third countries). - Control of imports and traceability of fish value chains. - Development for Cooperation and Fight against Poverty. - Achievement of UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular 2 (zero hunger), 8 (decent work and economic growth), 14 (life below water) and 17 (partnership for the goals).
